Last month in our Breast Cancer Awareness post we shared a little bit about our passion for being of service and support as it pertains to Cancer and our organization, Rusty Rabbit Cares. This month we would like to give you all some more insight into our “WHY” and expound upon the actual vision.
Did you know that according to the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) ,“A long history of racism has resulted in discriminatory policies, systemic inequities, and structural barriers that cause and perpetuate health disparities”? The disparities are documented through records of “adverse differences between certain population groups including: number of new cases; number of deaths; cancer-related health complications; survivorship and quality of life after cancer treatment; screening rates; and stage at diagnosis” Though the overall U.S. cancer death rate has declined by 32 percent from 1991 to 2019, the numbers still show that as of 2018, Black and Brown cancer death rates remain the highest of all racial groups.
Rusty Rabbit Cares is dedicated to creating cancer health equity across the board. We are here to advocate on behalf of women of color experiencing all genres of cancer, but unfortunately don’t have the support necessary to fight back . Through RRC, support will look like access to Medications, Health Insurance, Community, Grants, Clinical Trials, and Caretakers which can sometimes cost up to $7500 per month!
Having dealt with some of these challenges herself and as the previous caretaker of her late Grandmother Hazel Lee Brown, our Founder Nichole has decided to be very intentional about creating the change she wanted to see. So for each bottle of Lapin Rouillé Campaign sold, $1.00 USD will be donated to Rusty Rabbit Cares, and for each case sold $6.00 USD will be donated to RRC. These funds will directly contribute to our mission of equitable care. We are dedicated to underserved women of color who are often forced to suffer alone through the ups and downs of Cancer and have higher mortality rates because of it.
So now that you know, be sure to sip slow, and enjoy libations of legacy that honor women of the past and will provide resources and support to women of the future. Join us today and help close the gap of disparities one bottle at a time!
